Rivers Ave. Park and Ride to Open for Passengers Wednesday

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (July 16, 2019)   The brand new Rivers Avenue Park and Ride, located on Melnick Drive next to Texas Roadhouse, will open for passenger use Wednesday.

The ADA-compliant lot will serve CARTA, TriCounty Link and vanpool services, and feature 289 parking spaces with many new amenities including shelters, bathrooms, fencing and bike racks. The lot will also be monitored by cameras 24/7.

“This is the region’s first true, permanent park-and-ride facility, and it’s another step forward for transit and alternative modes of transportation,” said CARTA board chairman Mike Seekings. “It’s going to be safe, clean and offer amenities that will please our longtime riders and hopefully attract many new ones.”

The Rivers Avenue Park and Ride first launched in 2007 and has become the busiest lot of the seven park-and-ride locations. This lot is the first dedicated lot owned by Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments and CARTA, said BCDCOG executive director Ron Mitchum.

“We are excited to open our first dedicated park-and-ride lot. This next step will continue the growth of our regional transit system and provide our riders with upgraded amenities,” said Mitchum.

The lot will be served by CARTA routes Express 1 and routes 10 and 12. TriCounty Link routes will include Commuter Solutions 1 and 2, and B102.

CARTA Express and Tricounty Link bus stops will be located at shelters in the parking lot. To assist with efficiency, routes 10 and 12 will stop near the entrance of the parking lot at Antler and Melnick drives.

CARTA routes 10 and 12 will begin servicing the station July 22. You can find more information on the Ride CARTA website
