Route 31 Frequency Doubled Effective Feb. 8

Route improvements are coming to Folly Road with MORE frequency & wait times cut in half!

Starting on Monday Feb. 8, wait times will be cut in half! The route will now run every 45 minutes, doubling the frequency on the route.

More frequency means:

  • Less waiting — headways reduced to 45 minutes!
  • Better connections
  • Less-crowded buses

Public Hearing Notice: Route 204

Route/Service Modifications-Route 204

The public is hereby advised that The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) will hold a public hearing to provide final information and public comments regarding the elimination of Route 204.  Interested parties are invited to attend the hearing and express their views. 

A new pilot on-demand program will be launched in February 2021 that will provide service to the area currently served by Rt. 204.

The Hearing will take place:

Peninsula Service Suspended Aug. 29

Effective as of 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, all service on the peninsula is suspended for the night and will resume as scheduled on Sunday, Aug. 30.

Several routes that travel through the downtown area will be modified as of 7pm:

Routes 7, 20, 210, 211 and 213 are suspended and will not run after 7pm.

Routes 30, 31, 33, and 41 will run to Meeting and Mary St.

Routes 30, 31 and 33 will travel via Spring St. to Meeting and Mary St. (Calhoun stops will be missed).

Routes 10 and 11 run a normal to Meeting and Mary. The route may experience some delays or detours.

All routes traveling near the peninsula area may still experience delays and detours. Please check back for potential changes that may occur. Routes will return to regular schedule on Sunday, August 30th.

Routes 10 and 12 detouring due to flooding in North Charleston area

Routes 10 and 12

08.05/2020 1:30pm Routes 10 and 12 are detouring due to flooding in the area of Rivers Ave. and Otranto Rd. The bus stop on Otranto Rd. (Stop ID 382) will not be accessible. Passengers should use the stops near the library (Stop ID 369/Stop ID 91) until the routes are able to return to the regular schedules.

Route 12

Route 12 is detouring at Northwoods Blvd. due to flooding in the area. All stops along Northwoods Blvd. and at Northwoods Mall (Stop ID’s 362, 363, 364, 365, 366, 381, 402, 403, 404, 405) will be missed.

The route will travel the following route until it is able to return to regular the schedule:

*(Northbound) Down Ashley Phosphate to Rivers Ave. * (Southbound) Down Rivers to Ashley Phosphate

Tropical Storm Isaias Update 4

Winds have decreased, Route 40 has resumed regular service.

Due to high winds, the Route 40 will be suspended until further notice.

Tropical Storm Isaias Update 2

As of 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, CARTA officials continue to monitor Tropical Storm Isaias. The authority will act in accordance with Charleston County’s High Wind Bridge Procedures and is anticipating the discontinuation of service across bridges at some point this evening. Notice will be given when that decision is made. Also, be advised flooding is expected in the service area, which could lead to significant detouring and delays. Please limit all travel to essential trips only.

Hurricane Isaias Update 1

As of 6 p.m. on Friday, July 31, all CARTA service is planned to run as scheduled. Check back periodically throughout the weekend for potential service updates and follow @RideCARTA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the latest. Alerts will also be available via the Transit app and Google Transit.

CARTA suspending downtown services at 9pm due to city curfew

June 5, 2020

CARTA service in downtown Charleston will be suspended at 9 p.m. on Friday due to a city curfew. The last trip from downtown on Route 10 will depart Meeting and Mary at 9:05 p.m. Route 10 will continue to operate after 9 p.m. north of the Superstop at Cosgrove Avenue in North Charleston. Regular service is expected to resume Saturday, but may be impacted by additional evening curfews. Please check back for updates.
