What Can You Expect from the New CARTA?

CARTA is relaunching its bus service for the Charleston area on Monday, June 27. The service area has grown from seven to seventeen bus routes, and there will be more than double the number of buses running through the system. In addition to more routes and more buses, we'll be providing service running in the evenings as well as on weekends and holidays. And look for bus stop renovations with new, clearer signs in the both the new and expanded coverage areas, including:

  • North Neck area (Route 102)
  • Peripheral Battery area (Route 211)
  • Waterfront area, including Waterfront Park, the Maritime Center, the SC Aquarium, and the IMAX Theatre (Route 212)
  • Folly Road (Route 31); and
  • Hanahan through Otranto/Stall Roads (Route 106)

Beyond this physical service expansion, CARTA has made rider convenience its top priority- you should enjoy your traveling experience with us, whether for a commute, running errands, or for pleasure.

New route maps are available at the Charleston Visitor Reception and Transfer Center, located at 375 Meeting St., and at participating Piggly Wiggly stores. Maps are printed in English and Spanish, and we've printed Tel-A-Ride information in English as well as Braille for the ease of our disabled riders.

CARTA is also adding a number of new neighborhood buses to its fleet in order to better service and navigate smaller local roads.

And the best part is that the bus fare will not change from the current price of $1.25!

Look For the New CARTA Beginning Monday, June 27th!
