CARTA stands for: Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority. CARTA offers Fixed-route, Flex Service, Express commute service, and Paratransit service throughout the Charleston Metropolitan area, including The Trolley (DASH) service in the Historic Peninsula area of the Charleston.

This site provides information about how the system can take you almost anywhere your life takes you in the Charleston Metro area including work, shopping, hospitals, schools, and much more.

Free Ride Sunday for Senior 12/11/16

Sunday December 11, 2016 CARTA will hold another Senior Free Day where seniors 55+ can ride all routes for free.  This is the perfect opportunity to get some holiday shopping done, visit friends or family or simply explore the city and our different routes.  It is also second Sunday in downtown Charleston so take advantage of our final Senior Free Ride of 2016.  If you have any questions, please call 843-724-7420 for more info.  Happy Holidays from CARTA.

Where Can CARTA Take You?

CARTA takes you to most hospitals, libraries, grocery stores, shopping centers and service agencies throughout the Charleston area.  Seniors receive over a 50% discount on regular fares during non-peak hours.  See Special Rates to learn more.

How much does it cost to ride?

  • Seniors 55+ pay only $1.00 per trip for Fixed Route Service during non-peak hours.
  • Non Peak Hours are:

Monday through Friday from 9am-3:30pm and after 6pm;

All day Saturday and Sunday and Holidays

  • Drivers may request proof of age.  Medicare cards or I.D. card with date of birth will serve as identification for the fare.
