MIKE SEEKINGS ELECTED NEW CARTA BOARD CHAIRMAN
ANNA JOHNSON, GARY SANTOS ALSO ASSUME LEADERSHIP ROLES
NORTH CHARLESTON (Aug. 19, 2015) – The CARTA Board of Directors today voted unanimously to elect Mike Seekings as its new chairman. Seekings, a City of Charleston councilman, was formerly the CARTA secretary treasurer and has been a board member since 2010.
The board also unanimously elected Charleston County council member Anna Johnson as vice chairman and Mount Pleasant Town Council Man Gary Santos as secretary treasurer.
“I’m honored to assume this new role and look forward to advancing public transit in the region,” Seekings said. “The CARTA board and staff are working hard to positively position the system, update our fleet, and provide world-class transportation services in a world-class region.”
Wednesday’s vote completed a leadership transition that began in the summer when Ron Mitchum was named the system’s executive director.
Also on Wednesday, the board gave final approval to a number of route adjustments and a fare increase that had been the subject of a series of public meetings over the last month. Those changes will go into effect Oct. 4.
“Our goal is to optimize our resources and use them in the most efficient way possible,” Mitchum said. “We will continue to monitor both operations and capital issues to ensure the public is being well served.”
